Dust Suppression and Dust Prevention Systems

High pressure mist systems are suitable for suppressing airborne dust at conveyor systems, material transfer points and crushers.

Dust suppression involves atomising low volumes of water under high pressure exceeding 40 bar to create a fine mist that can effectively capture airborne dust.

Dust suppression systems (also known as misting systems) employ high pressure (above 40 bar) and low volume of water in the form of an atomised mist to capture airborne dust through agglomeration. Dust is also prevented from traveling due to the fine mist curtain that is created around your material handling point.

Dust suppression and dust prevention systems are not exclusive; many operations have both systems configured to effectively control dust. While dust prevention can be used in material handling operations, dust suppression is the preferred option, owing to low water consumption, especially in areas where water is scarce. This option also minimizes water addition to material and avoids wetting conveyors and blocking chutes.

Dust Suppression is more flexible compared to other methods of dust management. It is cheaper to install and maintain a dust suppression system compared to a dust extraction system for example. Dust suppression is a tailored solution and can double as a coolant for furnace discharge material being conveyed.

Dust Suppression System Applications:

Benefits of using a Dust-A-Side High Pressure Mist System:

Low volumes of water used

Reduces respirable dust

Reduces visual dust

Minimises water usage

Minimises conveyor slippage

Eliminates excessive moisture content in the material/ore

Reduces chute/screen blockages

Improves housekeeping standards

Increases safe work areas during operation

Low pressure mist systems are suitable for pre-wetting material to prevent dust at stockpile discharge conveyors, conveyor systems, and material transfer points.

Dust prevention uses larger volumes of water at low pressure (below 10 bar) to pre-wet the material and thus increase the humidity/moisture content, usually at close range on conveyors or at the beginning of the transfer point.

In a low pressure mist system the spray system will discharge water directly on the material at the beginning of the transfer point. Being low pressure, the flow of water and droplets sizes are much bigger and hence referred to as wetting systems.

Benefits of using a Dust-A-Side Low Pressure Mist System:

Systems effectiveness are less affected by external factors like wind and temperature

Slightly lower maintenance cost than other systems
